The LMS Student Council is dedicated to improving the environment of our school and community. Members are involved in many projects here at school and in the community. There are 20 eighth grade members, 11 seventh grade members in the council. Each of the council members works very hard to achieve the goals set for them. The council works to provide a positive message and tries to show people what a great school we have. L.M.S. student council is sponsored by Ms Angie Phifer. |
| The LMS Honor Society is an academic club whose members maintain a 93 average in math, language arts, science, social studies, and reading. In addition to being an academic society, the club is service oriented. Projects include inschool tutorial assistance, book hospital, campus clean up, MES reading program, and concession stand at ballgames. New members are inducted in October each year. Grades are checked on a semester basis and students who are on probation have one nine weeks in which to bring their average up. Sponsors are Mrs. Edna Wilson and Dr. Tracy Kilpatrick |
The LMS chorus has 59 members. The Chorus has 42 girls and 17 boys. We all work very had to learn as much as we can to improve our vocal ability. It is a proven fact that students involved in choruses score higher on achievement tests. The chorus competes in mid-state and state level choral estivals (the MTVA and TCDA). The chorus room is lined with 25 trophies won over the past few years of competition with both public and private schools of all sizes across the state. On the community level, our chorus performs for our adoptors at Christmas parties and events such as the lighting of the county Christmas tree. The chorus also performs at nursing homes throughout our city. The chorus director is Mrs. Elise Dumser. |
| The LMS band has 100 seventh and eighth grade members. The band performs at home football games and in our county Christmas parade. They perform free concerts for the county in the spring and at Christmas. They travel to most of the area schools and perform. As a group, the band has participated in the Concert Festival every year and consistently received 1s and 2s for their performance. Individual band students have auditioned and participated in the All Mid-State Honor Band Clinic and the Tri-Lake Band Directors Association Honor Band Clinic. They have also performed in state and regional solo and ensemble festivals. |
The L.M.S. newspaper is called The Tigerssean. The paper is sold at the end of every nine weeks. Most issues include recent happenings, campus life, a fun page, and other interesting articles. Each 4 1/2 weeks, a new newspaper staff receives instruction and learns how to create a newspaper. This is one of our new exploratory classes that we are teaching this year. The paper is sponsored by Mrs. Susan Jones. |
